Art Stage Singapore returned to Marina Bay Sands for its sixth edition from 21 to 24 January 2016, kicking off the international art season with exhibitions by famous and up-and-coming artists from Singapore and around the world.
Presenting 143 galleries from 32 countries, the four-day event was a forum for encouraging the development of regional art markets and for fostering international interest in South East Asian contemporary art. Exhibiting artists this year included Svay Sareth, who recently won Overall Best Emerging Artist at the 2016 Prudential Eye Awards, and Damien Hirst, whose controversial work “Amorous” sold for US $1.6 million at last year’s Art Stage. This year, Hirst was back with provocative pieces that included an intricate map of Singapore, created from surgical tools such as scalpel blades and stitching needles.
