Michael Kors is a world-renowned, award-winning designer of luxury accessories and ready-to-wear. His namesake company, established in 1981, currently produces a range of products under his signature Michael Kors Collection and MICHAEL Michael Kors labels. These products include accessories, footwear, watches, jewelry, men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, eyewear and a full line of fragrance products.
Born and raised in New York, Kors began designing and selling clothes when he was only a teenager. In 1980, at the age of 22, his talent was discovered by the fashion director of Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York City, where the young Kors was working across the street at a boutique which showcased his designs. He debuted his eponymous womenswear collection shortly after.
Kors was also the first women’s ready-to-wear designer for the French house Celine, from 1997 to 2003. In his tenure at Celine, Kors turned the fashion house around with successful accessories and a critically acclaimed ready-to-wear line. After launching his menswear line in 2002, Kors left Celine the following year to concentrate on his own brand.
Kors was a judge on the Emmy-nominated show Project Runway from 2004-2012, which was syndicated internationally, and raised his profile and the popularity of his label with audiences around the globe. Kors has won numerous accolades within the fashion industry, been honored for his philanthropy, and earned the respect and affection of millions.
As of 2016, Michael Kors has a global network of over 770 lifestyle stores, located in some of the world’s most prestigious cities. Behind this burgeoning empire stands a singular designer with an innate sense of glamour and an unfailing eye for timeless chic. Wholly dedicated to a vision of style that is as sophisticated as it is indulgent, as iconic as it is modern, Kors has created an enduring luxury lifestyle empire with a global reach.
