Animation Nation 2022

Catch Animation Nation 2022’s showcase of short films by Singapore filmmakers and Q&A with the founders of Singaporean creative studios MethodnMadness and Robot Playground Media.  

Animation Nation 2022 is the latest edition of the long-running film festival in Singapore that celebrates animated films in all forms. It was started in 2004 by the Singapore Film Society and currently holds the title of the largest animation festival in the country.

Animation Nation has 3 key objectives: 

  • Promoting animation to the wider community
  • Highlighting that animation is not just meant for children
  • Broadening the exposure of less mainstream animations

ArtScience Museum features three satellite events of the festival, including:

Screenings of 2 collections of short films by the Singapore Award Winners of the 24th Digicon6 Asia, and Robot Playground Media Singapore’s Short Films Selection.

 

Meet the Maker: Behind Ed Sheeran’s 2step with MethodnMadness Tan Wen Hao

A meet the maker session behind the scenes of Ed Sheeran’s 2STEP music video with Tan Wen Hao, founder of MethodnMadness.

 

Singapore Animated: A Robot Playground Media Retrospective + Q and A with co-founder, Ervin Han
22 Nov, 4.30pm – 6.30pm
A special screening of Robot Playground Media Singapore Short Films followed by a Q&A with co-founder Ervin Han.

About the Speakers

  • Tan Wen Hao, Founder of MethodnMadness

    Tan Wen Hao is the founder of MethodnMadness  - Film and VFX director driven studio - as well as the co-founder of Onyx Studio,AAA game asset outsourcing and co-dev studio.
     

    He has about 20 years of experience and has worked with clients such as Apple, Razer, IBM, Ed Sheeran, Greenpeace, SK-II, McDonald’s, Academy Films as well as most creative agencies. On the gaming side, clients include Microsoft, Slipgate, THQ Nordic and That’s No Moon. 
     

    Combined, he leads a team of 80 full time artists as well as a global network of talented freelancers. He believes in good creative ideas backed up by amazing craft and strives to deliver international quality work he can be proud of.

  • Ervin Han, Co-founder of Robot Playground Media

    After a decade working in international animation as a producer and development executive, Ervin Han co-founded Robot Playground Media as a home for more regional and local animated storytelling that traverses genres and demographics. He hopes to help elevate Southeast Asia animation as a well of talent, craft, and stories for a global audience.
     

    About Robot Playground Media
     

    Founded in 2013 by Ervin Han and Bernard Toh, Robot Playground Media is an award-winning local animation studio known for its diverse range of titles that cater to audiences of all ages – from preschool and kids series to adult animation and indie short films. Its works can be seen on Disney, Cartoon Network, Netflix, and Mediacorp.

  • [Moderator] Tan Wei Keong, Filmmaker

    Tan Wei Keong is an animation filmmaker who explores his gay identity through personal storytelling and fantasy worlds. He is an alumnus of Berlinale Talents 2022 and a resident at SFFILM FilmHouse for his next short and feature development. He was awarded the Young Artist Award by the National Arts Council of Singapore in 2019.

    His film, Kingdom (2018), has been selected to compete at the Berlin International Film Festival. His previous film, Between Us Two (2017), received the Best Singapore Short Film Award at Singapore International Film Festival and the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary Short at Outfest Los Angeles. His films have been selected at many film festivals, including those at Annecy, Zagreb, Stuttgart and Toronto.
