Culture Club: Mikimoto’s pearl paradise

Mikimoto founder Kokichi Mikimoto successfully created the world’s first cultured pearls in 1893, flying in the face of challenges and public skepticism to make these “gems of the sea”, once mere products of chance, more accessible to people worldwide.

Over a century later, the Japanese jeweller is once again making waves, on the back of the reopening of its Singapore flagship store at a prominent new location on Level 1 in Marina Bay Sands. The revamped 754 sq ft boutique also now boasts a grander facade and incorporates an ocean design concept similar to the main store in Ginza, Japan. A special VIP room also offers an exclusive shopping experience to jewellery lovers.

To mark the Singapore store’s reopening, a select number of unique high-jewellery pieces have been specially flown in for a limited period. A dazzling highlight is the elegant Conch Pearl Necklace in 18K White Gold with Diamonds. Conch pearls, produced by the Queen Conch shellfish from the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico, are extremely rare as they are impossible to cultivate in captivity. They come in shades ranging from pale pink to deep red, and are found at an average rate of one in every 10,000-15,000 Conch Shellfish.

Other stunning pieces include the intricate Les Pétales Place Vendôme 18K White Gold Necklace with White South Sea Pearls and Diamonds, and the attention-grabbing High Jewellery Baroque Pearls with Opal in 18K White Gold Necklace with Diamonds.

From 1 June to 31 December 2019, Paiza Members who make a purchase of of $12,000 and above in a single transaction will receive an exclusive Mikimoto silk bamboo fan.
