Playing the Exhibition: YST Conservatory at Sensory Odyssey

YST Conservatory of Music brings us on an embodied journey of wonder and discovery through the spectacular natural environments in Sensory Odyssey: Into the Heart of Our Living World.

Under the mentorship of Adeline Wong (Senior Lecturer, Composition), the Conservatory’s students have written a series of works in response to the exhibition, exploring humanity’s relationship with the natural world. Featuring musical compositions for solo instruments, this performance programme will be presented as a site-responsive experience in the multi-sensory environment of the installations, voyaging from the rainforests in French Guiana to the Arctic glaciers.

About the Collaboration

Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music
Inspirational life-affirming music-making is at the heart of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music at the National University of Singapore. Centred in one of the world’s most dynamic countries, the Conservatory is uniquely placed to offer a distinct and powerful contemporary Asian voice.See more

Founded in 2003, the Conservatory quickly established a reputation as Asia’s most exciting international conservatory by bringing together a world-class faculty and facility to develop excellence in instrumental performance and composition. Building on this strong foundation, the Conservatory has evolved over the past decade to become one of the world’s most distinctive music schools, diversifying its offerings and continually seeking to connect authentically with its surrounding community. Specialisations added subsequently include Voice, Audio Arts & Sciences, Conducting, Music & Society and Music, Collaboration & Production. Alongside students from Singapore, the Conservatory community is internationally diverse, with representation from over 20 countries and five continents.

With excellence, inclusion, community, agency and identity as key drivers, the Conservatory seeks to nurture aspirant professional musicians while giving greater musical resonance in the broader ecosystem. Holding “Listen in New Light” as a core guiding principle connecting its past, present and future endeavours, the Conservatory is well-positioned to lead change in music and higher music education in the 21st century, (re)imagining new possibilities as it continues to evolve a unique trajectory.
