Universally known for its distinct, well-loved tartan print, the global reign of British luxury brand Burberry's legacy of the tartan print was thanks in part to founder Thomas Burberry’s invention of garbadine in 1879 – a permeable, weatherproof and long-lasting fabric that radically changed rainwear production.
In 2008, the Burberry Foundation was established for general charitable purposes and grant-making. Burberry also celebrated diversity and inclusivity in its February 2018 collection by designing the Rainbow Vintage check.
