Located along the picturesque Marina Bay waterfront, ArtScience Museum is a fascinating combination of exhibitions that bring together the most incredible ideas in art, science, culture, and technology. Among Singapore’s impressive skyline and architectural feats, ArtScience Museum has one of the city’s most iconic facades.

Designed to Dazzle

Before venturing into the museum, the award-winning ArtScience Museum makes a statement with its stunning exterior design. Brought to life from the imagination of renowned architect Moshe Safdie, the building consists of 10 ‘fingers’ which house gallery spaces with natural light. The museum entrance hovers over a lily pond which includes the inspiration behind the museum’s shape, the Lotus flower.

A Different Kind of Museum

From galaxies far, far away with the Star Wars Identities exhibition to life a little closer to home with Planet or Plastic?, ArtScience Museum has been home to incredible experiences like no other. With 21 gallery spaces spread over an expansive 5,000m² area, you can expect several exhibitions to explore when you visit.

What's On at ArtScience Museum

Future World

Future World: Where Art Meets Science

A permanent exhibition at ArtScience Museum, Future World is an immersive, breath-taking exhibition that is not to be missed. Created in collaboration with award-winning Japanese art collective teamLab, the exhibition is spread over a massive 1,500m2. Known as ‘Singapore’s largest digital playground’, Future World is a collection of digital installations that excite the senses in a flurry of futuristic interactivity.

The exhibit is made up of four distinct experiences – City in a Garden, Sanctuary, Park, and Space. Each experience is a sensorial journey that explores the nature of key theme narratives.

Future World

City in a Garden

Featuring eight curated artworks, City in a Garden is a mesmerising adventure that takes its inspiration from Singapore’s bountiful and colourful natural environment. Engage with nature in an entirely new way as you walk through lush digital flower fields, forests, and waterfalls. Connect through music, play, and touch as the boundaries of your world go beyond imagination.

Sanctuary

If you’re looking to get away from the hustle and heat of the city, Sanctuary is an escape with a creative flourish. Watch with captivation as flocks of bird swoop and glide around the space, leaving trails of lights in this calming oasis of colour in The Way of Birds. The installation is reactive, responding to visitors in the space and blurring the lines between reality and this virtual artwork.

Future World

Park

With four different artworks expressing four different perspectives, Park is an open exploration around the simple joys of play. Hop and skip along your custom hopscotch game, make music with colourful, light-emitting beachballs and create digital worlds on a canvas of interactive activities and sketching workshops.

Space

For the finale of your journey, prepare for liftoff as you enter the ethereal beauty of Space with the Crystal Universe installation. Interactive 4D Vision technology and over 170,000 LED lights thrust you on a breathtaking voyage across the cosmos. As you engage with the installation, it responds to your motion, changing the very shape of the universe around you.

Virtual Realms: Videogames Transformed

Exhibition Dates: 12 Jun 2021 – 9 Jan 2022

From hardcore enthusiasts huddled around arcade machines to grandparents crushing candies on their smartphones, videogames have gone from a niche geeky pastime to a global phenomenon in just a matter of years. With the proliferation of technology in the 21st century, video games will only become more popular among the masses.

Curated and organised by the Barbican, London, in association with six acclaimed videogame developers and digital media designers, Virtual Realms: Videogames Transformed is a fascinating showcase into the world of gaming. Presented across a series of immersive installations, the gallery experience at ArtScience Museum highlights the unique characteristics of the art form.

Virtual Realms

The developers, who have been the architects behind culture-defining titles such as Death Stranding, Rez Infinite, Little Big Planet, Journey, and Deadlight, have crafted vibrant odysseys where animation, graphics, light, and sound are explored via six vivid themes: UNITY, SYNESTHESIA, CONNECTION, PLAY, NARRATIVE, and EVERYTHING.

For diehard gamers and casual players alike, Virtual Realms: Videogames Transformed is sure to astound visitors with installations that transport them to new worlds and experiment with their senses.

Orchestral Manoeuvres

Orchestral Manoeuvres: See Sound. Feel Sound. Be Sound

Exhibition Dates: 28 Aug 2021 – 2 Jan 2022

Orchestral Manoeuvres: See Sound. Feel Sound. Be Sound is an exhibition that deconstructs the concept of ‘sound’ and recreates it in exciting new ways. This ambitious project brings together 32 globally-renowned composers and contemporary artists who create eclectic soundscapes through different musical scores, objects, and noise-making sculptures.

As you listen and soak in the unexpected waves of the pulsing sonics, the creators invite you to indulge with your inner musician and use the inspiration from what you hear all around you to create your very own beats.

Orchestral Manoeuvres

Experience a choral performance like no other with Canadian artist Janet Cardiff’s Choral installation, which explores the ethereal art form in a new arrangement. Watch a self-playing piano, otherwise known as a pianola, in action at the Writing Sound installation.

Besides exploring sound through new forms and curious instruments, the exhibition prompts us to observe sound in everyday contexts. Resonance plays with sound as vibration – making sound waves visible as they travel across materials and fluids; Sounds Around showcases sculptures reminiscent of soundscapes of everyday environments.
