2024 marks the Year of Extraordinary Women at ArtScience Museum.
We are proud to present three major shows that examine, celebrate, and uncover the stories of women whose lives have influenced society throughout the decades. The exhibitions range from focusing on inspiring artists and screen legends to strong female characters seen in the epic movies of one of the most beloved animation studios in the world. Accompanying the exhibitions are women-focused programmes throughout the year, starting with a season of screenings of work by influential Chinese artist Cao Fei at ArtScience Cinema in January.

From the renegade women of silent cinema to the actors challenging representation today, Goddess celebrates the collective power and glamour of women in film. This exhibition charts the evolution of women’s representation on screen and reframes the stars and significant stories we think we know.

Frida Kahlo: The Life of an Icon is an immersive biographical exhibition about one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. A woman of strength, rebellion and talent, the exhibition explores the incredible life of the renowned artist, her legacy and the artworks that continues to captivate, surprise, and inspire.

Technotopias: A Cao Fei Multiverse

From Asia One to La Town and her latest sci-fi epic Nova, Cao’s multiverse is an invitation to delight in the ordinary while offering a more harmonious future.

Experience rare screenings featuring Anna May Wong, the first female Chinese American movie star, showcasing her resilience and trailblazing legacy. Explore her iconic performances in Piccadilly and My China Film/ Bold Journey, along with animated interviews of Hollywood luminaries, Bette Davis, Grace Kelly and Marlene Dietrich. Delve into their stories of breaking stereotypes and striving for more in the film industry.
This programme screenings are in conjunction with the exhibition Goddess: Brave. Bold. Beautiful.

Screen Icons celebrates the transcendent, leading lady performances in Asian cinema. The first in the series: Taiwanese arthouse and box-office star Shu Qi.
Shu Qi’s diverse career spans nearly three decades, establishing her as one of the most prominent actresses in Chinese cinema. She garnered critical acclaim with Millennium Mambo in 2001 directed by acclaimed Taiwanese director, Hou Hsiao-Hsien.
