Extended Play: Videogames Meet Cinema

Extended Play: Videogames Meet Cinema contemplates the evolving, enduring relationship between games, digital culture and contemporary cinema.

Presented in dialogue with Virtual Realms: Videogames Transformed, this programme of screenings looks at films that have established a cross-medial relationship with videogames, and how this connection is inflected in different ways.

Extended Play launches in September with cult classic TRON (1982), which was inspired by Pong and released during the golden age of arcade videogames; animated feature Wreck-It Ralph (2012) that offers homage to classic videogames and popular culture wrapped in an adventurous road movie; and science fiction action thriller Ready Player One (2018), which considers the philosophical and cultural impact of gaming and immersive technologies.
