For School Groups: This programme is eligible for the National Arts Council’s Tote Board Arts Grant subsidy.
Dive into a world of mechanical art as we explore the intricate mechanisms and movements of an automata which is a simple mechanical toy made of simple materials.

Through demonstrations and hands-on activities, participants will have the opportunity to create their very own automata to bring home.

This workshop aims to inspire creativity, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation of the intersection between art, science and engineering.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about automata and identify them in everyday objects and machineries
  • Explore the world of motion through movement and gears
  • Exercise creativity and problem-solving skills

Note: All materials for the session will be provided. Groups may also choose to bring their own recycled boxes (e.g. shoe boxes, tissue paper boxes) to engage in upcycling and practice their commitment to sustainable practices. Please note that the maximum dimensions for the cardboard boxes should be 15cmx30cm.
