Want to experience the great outdoors but unable to give up your creature comforts? Glamping combines the ‘experience’ of camping outdoors and luxuries of mattresses, Wi-Fi, and snacks in a stylish and comfortable retreat.

What is Glamping?

‘Glamping’ is a portmanteau of the words ‘glamorous’ and ‘camping’. It refers to a more opulent form of camping that includes resort-style comforts such as beds, electricity, cushions, and picnic tables, to name a few.

The term Glamping is believed to have come into existence around 2005 in the UK and was added to the Oxford English dictionary in 2016. While the word might be relatively new, the concept of luxurious tent-living has been around since the 16th century.

Into the wild with style

Also referred to posh camping, comfy camping, and boutique camping, Glamping today encompasses everything from solid wooden structures to cosy cloth alcoves; think safari houses, tree houses, tipis, pods, yurts, tent cabins and caravans. Glamping varieties also differ on their sites, amenities, themes, and add-ons.

A typical Glamping experience usually includes huge tents, queen-sized beds, fairy lights, cushions, pillows, mats, and blankets. Similar to a hotel minibar, most glamping providers offer soft drinks and snacks as complimentary items. Based on the package chosen, one can also enjoy movie projectors, picnic set ups, balloons, flowers, Bluetooth speakers, and even Wi-Fi.

Glamping Providers and Destinations

Here’s a brief look at some Singaporean companies that offer Glamping experiences and the locations they operate in.

Glamping Society

Singapore’s first glamping provider, Glamping Society offers 4 different types of tents - which accommodate up to 2-8 people - along with a multitude of glamping packages and add-ons. Locations include East Coast Park Area G and Area D and Kranji Glamping Farm Resort (tents are equipped with air-conditioning and power outlets at this location). Package-specific amenities include fairy light pathways, outdoor cinema, balloons, flower bouquets, and picnic set ups.

Go Glamping Singapore

Go Glamping SG previously partnered with Jewel Changi Airport for their popular ‘Glampcation in the Clouds’ experience, which allowed visitors to enjoy the sounds of the Rain Vortex (the world’s largest indoor waterfall), bounce around on Sky Nets, and take topiary walks in the canopy park. Go Glamping also has set ups in two locations - Kranji Gallop Farm and East Coast Park – with tents that accommodate up to 6 people and packages for couples and groups looking to enjoy a BBQ.

Glamping City

Started in 2017, Glamping City was also a partner for Jewel Changi Airport’s ‘Glampcation in the Clouds’ initiative. They have a set up at East Coast Park that includes outdoor picnics, candlelight dinners, gorgeously decorated tents and themed experiences for up to six. Their unbeatable cinema package is a treat for movie buffs - expect an 80-inch screen, HD projector, speaker, and Wi-Fi for indoor or outdoor viewing.

Glamping Kaki

Another operator in East Coast Park, Glamping Kaki is one of the most affordable and budget-friendly glamping providers in Singapore. It offers a cosy ambience and luxurious camping facilities to those searching for a place to escape the hectic city life or reconnect with nature. Wake up to a sea view in a tent with a queen-size memory foam mattress, complete with cushions, fairy lights, wine glasses, cutlery, and items for a picnic. Aspiring stargazers can rent beach chairs to watch the night sky in comfort, or kick back and enjoy the sunset.

Wondrous Glamping

With two campsites at East Coast Park and Pasir Ris Park, you’re sure to have a memorable night out with Wondrous Glamping. Similar to other glamping providers, Wondrous Glamping has a list of packages you can choose from. Packages include a queen-sized air mattress or 2 single-sized ones, linen, pillows and blankets, fans, tables, and rugs.
