Drop-in Sessions: Super Senses of the Wild

Ever wondered why some animals have really big ears or multiple eyes? Find out more how these super abilities help animals survive in the wild through our crafty drop-in sessions.
 
You can also make your own 'super abilities' to bring home with you! These sessions will be running in conjunction with Sensory Odyssey: Into the Heart of Our Living World exhibition.

Drop-in Sessions

  • Bug’s Eye View
    Bug’s Eye View
    11am – 5pm, on the following dates:
    29 – 31 May
    1 – 2, 5 – 9, 12 – 16, 19 – 23 Jun

    Some insects have numerous lenses in their eyes to help see their surroundings. It helps to spot any incoming danger before they fly off to make an escape! In this drop-in activity, learn more about this ‘super sense’ and craft your own mini bug’s eye!
  • Big Bat’s Ears
    Big Bat’s Ears
    11am – 5pm, on the following dates:
    31 Jul
    1 – 4, 7 – 11, 14 – 18, 21 – 25 Aug

    Ever heard of echolocation?

    Some animals, like bats, use echoes from the sounds they create to help them hunt in the dark. With their big, wide ears, it helps them to capture these sounds that bounce back to ‘see’ their prey. While we are not able to have this unique ability, find out how bigger ears could make us hear better!
  • Come and Camouflage!
    Come and Camouflage!
    11am – 5pm, on the following dates:
    4 – 8, 11 – 15, 18 – 22, 25 – 29 Sep

    Did you know that some animals blend into their surroundings to hide from predators?

    In this drop-in activity, you will learn how camouflage works!

    Create your own “camo-mask” and disguise yourselves within the different habitats found in Sensory Odyssey.
