A Trip Through Time: Exploring Patek Philippe’s legacy

Patek Philippe put on a stellar showing of timepieces at Baselworld 2019, with two highlights being the Annual Calendar Regulator-style Display Ref. 5235/50R and the Annual Calendar Flyback Chronograph Ref. 5905R.

The Annual Calendar Regulator Ref. 5235/50R is the only model in the collection with a regulator-style display. This rose gold watch features a two-tone dial in graphite and ebony-black and an alligator strap. The day, month and date are displayed in three large apertures, automatically taking account of months of 30 and 31 days—meaning it requires correction only once a year, on 1 March.

The Annual Calendar Flyback Chronograph Ref. 5905R unites two Patek Philippe complications—a self-winding flyback chronograph and a patented Annual Calendar—in a new version in rose gold with brown sunburst dial. This chronograph uses a vertical disk clutch instead of a horizontal wheel clutch for transmission of the start, stop and reset commands. As this application is virtually friction-free, the centre chronograph hand can also serve as a permanently running seconds hand without affecting accuracy.

The brand is also bringing its Watch Art Grand Exhibition to Singapore from 28 September to 13 October. To be held at Sands Theatre, the free exhibition will provide insights into the manufacture’s history, technical achievements, and rare timepieces and antiques. A special Singapore 200th Anniversary showcase will also profile selected timepieces and milestones from the watchmaker’s past alongside key milestones in Singapore’s history.
