Keep calm and meditate on

"In these uncertain and unprecedented times" is a phrase we've all heard far too often over the last year and a half. Truly, the pandemic has caused a lot of ambiguity, resulting in feelings of stress and restlessness. With these concerns, it's essential to find the time to take a moment and allow yourself to relax and give your mind a break from the internal noise of your thoughts.

One way to achieve this is through meditation. The practice of mediation has been around for thousands of years, and when done right, is a highly useful way to settle your mind that provides a sense of calm and balance that can benefit both your emotional health and wellbeing. These themes and more are explored further in Art of Being Calm, one of a series of new programmes that make up the ArtScience at Home online event.

The experience begins with Museum Ambassador Josephine and her meditative guide to Finding Peace and Staying Calm. In this video presentation, Josephine gives a brief overview of the origins of meditation before sharing different techniques you can try, including Mantra meditation, Visualisation and Compassion. Each one focuses on a slightly different element and approach but offers simple ways to tap into your spirituality.

What goes through your mind when you see the colour blue? What's your reaction to a splash of purple or a burst of green? Well, beyond hinting towards your personal artistic tastes, colours can also reveal the nature of our moods and emotions. In Being Bold with Colours, colour theory expert Radhiah examines the deeper relationship between colours and our feelings.
