There’s something about kicking back with post-work drinks on a rooftop or waterfront bar. And better yet in an al fresco area with handsome views of the Downtown Core and some of Singapore’s most iconic attractions – whether the restored National Gallery Singapore or Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay.

Whatever sort of drinker you may be (the bourbon connoisseur, the bar-bites-and-booze imbiber, the vino snob), these waterfront bars will sort you for a night out in the Marina Bay area.

Le Noir

Le Noir

Le Noir – French for ‘The Black’ – is one of those places you’d likely roll up to after a long day in your CBD-located, skyscraping office. Like many bars, expect live performances from local and international artists taking place hourly from 6.15pm through 11.15pm.

Far than the rowdiness you’d expect of a typical pub, Le Noir is fitted with a crisp sound system, and tastefully finished with touches of burnt gold. Beyond its extensive drinks menu (they’ve everything from beers, champagnes and cocktails to cold-pressed juices) are mains including pizzas and burgers. If you’re going in a group, try its Sharing Platters built for four to ten persons.

Yardbird Southern Table & Bar

Fried chicken made the way of a 100-year-old recipe, dense cheddar waffles and spiced watermelon cubes to neutralise the palate: Yardbird captures the spirit of American comfort food, made all the better with one of its handcrafted drinks.

The restaurant proudly holds claim to owning Asia’s biggest collection of bourbons and American whiskeys, each spun on the head to suit even eclectic tastes.

The classic Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade is a dangerously addictive cocktail that borrows its zest and gentle spiciness from lemon, bitters and cardamom, while the rich yet moreish Peanut Butter Jelly Time – a riff on the 2004 song – is built from peanut butter-infused American whiskey and a concord grape reduction, then capped with brioche foam and peanut brittle.

Dallas Cafe & Bar

Dallas Cafe & Bar

This bar-bistro needs no introduction. Dallas Cafe & Barissues excellent mains, whether the hefty Southern Burger that’s loaded with a juicy 220-gram Black Angus beef patty, bacon, relish and cheese, or lighter sides such as Salt & Pepper Calamari with sweet chilli mayonnaise.

If you’re strictly here for drinks, though, its handcrafted cocktails are a doozy; the Traditional Irish Coffee is an addictive laced drink that hits the right spot with its mix of caffeine and Irish whiskey, while the quintessential Singapore Sling makes for a sweet, fruity segue into a relaxing evening.

Bread Street Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay

Bread Street Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay
He’s hardly the most welcoming face in the kitchen – not if TV series Hell’s Kitchen is any indication – but Gordon Ramsay is a multi-Michelin starred master chef in his own right. The proof is in the pudding; or, more accurately, the Beef filet Wellington at Bread Street Kitchen that’s complemented by glazed carrots, seasonal greens, red wine jus and mash.

Vegetarians ought to try the Impossible Wellington, named so for its plant-based meat substitute that tastes uncannily like the real thing. Come Tuesdays, it’s 50% off the restaurant’s signature cocktail from 6 to 9pm. Or take Wednesdays to savour half-bottle Champagnes and reds at special prices, only from 11.30am to 11pm.
